This is a great article from Psychology today about the challenges of helping your child engage with math. I think making sure you don't bring in your own baggage with math is a great place to start. I remember learning that my parents "weren't good at math" years into school and I felt like it gave me the space to have my own experiences.
Some great ideas:
- do fewer problems
- do more practice and review
- set a timer
- require less writing
- model a positive attitude towards math yourself
